Small Kingdoms of Remtaldi

A smaller continent to the Southwest comprised of multiple distinct kingdoms. Though each has its own unique characteristics, in general Remtaldi is a very dry and arid desert country, filled with mystery and shadowy allure.

It is widely regarded that “Remtaldi” comes from the people’s ancient, half-forgotten mother tongue, and simply means “Those Who Roam the Shifting Sands.”

A Closer Look

Originally just one land vaguely called Remtaldi by the various tribes that wandered its vast deserts, this country has always known territorialism. Even before true borders were set, conflicts over the precious scant resources available abounded for centuries.

This culminated in the epochal War of the Sands circa 797AD that would not only decide the fate of Remtaldi as a whole, but affect the entire Western hemisphere of Eotera for centuries afterwards

Not everything is about burning sands and broken bones though. Well, as long as you aren’t foolish enough to insult a Tralbikian to their face. Which, of course, still starts skirmishes of their own right.

However, having its roots from the War of the Sands, there is a nationwide festival that occurs around Enmosht Oasis where no fighting is allowed, and people set aside their grudges to celebrate the waters here and the life it brings.

The People and Their Culture

Matheu

In the same vein as their kingdoms, though each people has their own unique characteristics, in general most natives of Remtaldi share similar traits.

All have darker brown skin, tall, lean structures, and jawlines much more angular than those not from this desert island. Of particular note, Xyrians tend to have straighter hair, Khatians have a penchant for calico eyes, Tralbikians have the highest likelihood for inheriting the recessive gene for pointed ears, and Sychuans boast the darkest skin tones.

And, as you may have already guessed, theirs is a culture of very proud peoples who highly value personal strength, honor, and the finality of decisions when it comes to combat. Even to this day, duels are a perfectly legal and respectable way to settle disputes in modern Remtaldi, which is done in the traditional two-sword style of ages past.

Local Phrase: “You can’t win a duel, if you aren’t willing to get cut.”

Ruled over many generations by the strict matriarchs of the Yornkorsher family, the people now see fair governance due to the brave actions of Elyz Nilfa Yornkorsher, the founder of The Global Council.

Eschewing life in the desert, this kingdom took to the seas, creating a once powerful navy that conquered much of Eotera’s southwestern oceans. A sanctuary for marine life, surfing here rivals that of the Independent Island Alliance.

Kingdom of Sychua

Earlier named Sychua-Hri before a civil war split the kingdom in two. Now Sychua and its then neighbor Pequan-Hri are at peace, rejoined, and have developed prosperous trade with Khati. Arguably the sandiest and most dune-filledd of the kingdoms.
