Independent Islands Alliance

Founded by George Teckrin II to help provide stable trade to all island city-states of Eotera, both domestic and in foreign waters.

Lalien City, the capital of the IIA, is considered the most technologically advanced city of the world, no doubt in part to the TTU graduates who call it home.

From active volcanoes, to cascading waterfalls, to strange relics of ancient times, the Independent Islands Alliance is home to some of the most unique sites to see.

A Closer Look

“Discovery” of the first islands to compose the IIA was one of the few things in Eotera’s history that were true discoveries. Practically no one lived there. Even many of the bigger archipelagoes were virtually untouched, though there was some evidence of small, primitive civilizations from ages prior.

Which does raise an interesting question. Why were these islands, which are arguably so much more pleasant than the Uhldranyas climate-wise, settled so much later than the former?

Simply put, they’re remarkably difficult to get to by sea. As such it wasn’t until the first George Teckrin landed here with Maxwell Wrightford on their steam-powered dirigible that they were even placed on any map.

Each island varies in size and geography, but Lalien is by far the largest, and is also home to the IIA’s capital and most esteemed institutions. But, with the majority of the IIA’s population centered on Lalien, you know what that means? Just about everywhere else is a near-private island paradise just waiting for you to visit!

The People and Their Culture

The Independent Island Alliance is the youngest of all the nations. And, it’s also the one that had the least amount of indigenous people when becoming settled. While it’s not the case as much anymore, for the longest time the IIA wasn’t really a place you were from, but a place you came to.

As a result, the culture that developed here seemed to do so in real-time, and was the direct outcome of inserting other traditions into a tropical paradise. Almost predictably, you can see how that may have led to a more relaxed version of the practices that arrived here and stayed. And, of course, everyone is much more tan than their non-tropical constituents.

George Teckrin

Due to the influence of Teckrin Technical University, the collective peoples here value the progress of knowledge and technology, as well as the principles of harmonious coexistence. Indeed, it was their founder’s forebear who journeyed the world to spread that philosophy.

However, that doesn’t mean conflict doesn’t exist here! That conflict often just has a healthier outlet, as most islands have built somewhat of an identity around competing at All Islands’ Fest: A once a year opportunity to prove which island is the best overall through a series of events and mostly-friendly sporting spectacles.

Local Phrase: “That’s just a bunch of sand in the waves, yeah?”
