Nao Quai
Rocky and rugged, Nao Quai is one of the final frontiers of Eotera. With one of the most inhospitable terrains imaginable, while still being “livable,” it’s little wonder why this land has the smallest population.
To visit Nao Quai is to visit a truly wild country. Equal parts dangerous and beautiful, you’re sure to return home with at least a couple stories to tell.

A Closer Look
During the upheaval of the Xyrian people after the War of the Sands, Nao Quai was one of the first new lands discovered by the freshly seafaring people. Most, and rather quickly at that, decided that this land was cursed and not worth spending more time than necessary to resupply and move on.
But, those that did decide to stay behind are who the modern Nao Quai natives have descended from.
Nao Quai stayed under the banner of Xyri up until the fall of that empire, but that was only in name, as the country itself was unmanageable in more ways than one at that time.
The extreme terrain made communication between settlements slow and dangerous. So much so, that it wasn’t until quite recently that Nao Quai even became a true nation.
The People and Their Culture

Even before the fall of the Xyrian Empire, the people of Nao Quai quickly came to notice and accept that they would receive little, if any, assistance from their mother nation. Alone in a forbidding land, with no one else to depend on, these individuals came to embody a type of self-reliance that reflected the land they now resided in.
Two things distinguish a Nao Quai native. One is their honest, forthright demeanor that precedes their pragmatic temperament. And the other, is the sometimes eerie pigment of their dark irises that can make it seem like they lack pupils.
And, as if to directly challenge this cruel realm, the people created a contest. Each year, teams of people arrive at Khorin on the northern edge of the country, and race on foot towards Nao Quai’s southernmost settlement of Sobund. And, the only supplies allowed are what you can carry on your back.
Nowadays, this race attracts individuals from all over the world. However, it is always overseen by the Qurajyn, a group of monks who reside in the isolated monasteries of the central lands and who are widely understood to be Nao Quai’s truly indigenous peoples.
Local Phrase: “Wrong assumptions can be deadly.”
